What is Hydroflight?
It’s a question that we are often asked and the natural response is to describe the activity itself. To explain the physics behind the concept and how the process works. Sure, it’s amazing that something so unusual, so out of the ordinary is even possible. First dubbed an extreme water sport open only to those daring enough to strap on a pair of bindings and allow themselves to be propelled above the waters’ surface, Hydroflight has evolved into more of a leisure activity that can be enjoyed by just about anyone. Sure, there are Professional Athletes pushing the limits, doing tricks that can only be described as insane, but that is common with most every sport.
The truth is, Hydroflight is so much more than just jetboards & jetpacks, hoses and hydraulics. Hydroflight is easy to do and above all, it’s fun! It’s an activity that can be enjoyed alone or with friends and families alike. It gives a whole new purpose to that Personal Watercraft stored in the garage. And it attracts a lot of attention! Just go out to the lake on any given weekend and see how many new friends you’ll make in a single afternoon of flying! You'll be amazed how quickly videos and photos of you flying show up on everyone's social media.
So, before we get into the somewhat mundane FAQ’s about Hydroflight, keep in mind it’s more about spending quality time with friends and family, making lasting memories, creating some of the most amazing times (and photos!) together that you will talk about at the Thanksgiving table for years to come. THAT is what Hydroflight is all about. Get out and experience it for yourself, then start making your own special memories.
Now on to the meat and potatoes of this amazing new water sport.
FAQ's
How does it work? In a nutshell, a Personal Watercraft (PWC) pushes pressurized water up a 60+ foot hose that is then split into multiple jet nozzles that create lift for the device and the rider. With a Jetpack, which is attached to your back, the jets lift you from just below your shoulders giving you the sensation of suspended flight. A Jetboard, on the other hand, attaches to your feet and lifts you from below. Both devices give you the sensation of human flight without wings and each provide a different kind of thrill.
Is there a minimum age requirement? Age is not as important as lower body control and agility. For example, we have seen 6 year olds who are active with other sports like gymnastics, football, baseball, soccer, etc. get right up and never look back. And we have seen 12 year olds who are not active with sports or other outdoor activities have a hard time flying. So, for us, it’s more about size and ability than just age.
What are weight limits? For the Jetboard, we require a minimum of 90 pounds (we prefer 100) and a maximum weight of 350. For the Jetpack, solo riders must be at least 85 pounds and less than 330. We can accommodate tandem flights for younger riders between 35 and 100 pounds where they will ride with an instructor.
What if I don’t know how to swim? The ability to swim is not as important as being comfortable in the water. You will be wearing a life jacket and the equipment you are attached to floats as well so there’s no risk of sinking. From time to time you may become submerged so you must not have a fear of the water. We can perform a simple in water test to simulate conditions before you fly to make sure you are comfortable if necessary.
How long does it take to learn? Most first-time riders are airborne within 5 minutes, since everyone has a different learning curve so your actual time may vary. Our Instructors are the best in the business and our learning system is very effective, so you can expect to be flying comfortably by the end of your first lesson. A lot of riders are doing dolphin dives on their first lesson.
Will I get wet? Yes. You will be in the water and you can expect to be wet from head to toe. Bring a towel and a change of clothes.
Can my friends and family watch? Yes. We are located on a floating Marina and there is a patio area where your guests can watch and even take videos or pictures.
